REPORT: “the FACE of AUSTRALIA”.
This is our third time at the NSW Parliament House Fountain Courtand it is an elegant and spacious venue, showcasing the works. We had about 150 guests. Former NSW Minister the Arts Virginia Judge for opened the exhibition and the show itself was highly praised and should be well attended for the run.
Our photographer Craig Peihopa has sent in his photographs of the night and we have uploaded a selection onto the PAA website, including the works. Please check them out and contact Craig for large files suitable for printing if you wish. (Go to the right side menue of the HOMEPAGE and click on “EXHIBITION PHOTOS”. Also previous exhibitions are all there – some wonderful shots.) The works are all very strong and the theme is popular with the public.
Thanks to the Hanging team – Jules Sevelson; Alex & Marilyn Koloszy; Nafisa Naomi; Kathrin Longhurst; Janis Lander; Bob Baird; Rosa Fedele; and Phil from the Parliament House services.
Thanks to the hard working Committee members who do a huge amount of organizing make it all come together on the night.
Thanks to our sponsors: Paul Cartwright of Woollahra Freight; Craig Peihopa of Timeline Photography; Cellarmasters Wines for the gift to Speaker; and to the excellent Parliament House liaison staff and Catering services. 10th year Anniversary Edition of
Portrait Artists Australia – 2002 – 2012.
The committee is looking into printing quotes for a lovely glossy book of PAA Exhibiting Artists – allowing two pages per artist for images of works and a short bio. All current, financial members are eligible. This serves to commemorate the 10 years that Portrait Artists Australia has been in existence, and will showcase the artists’ work and the genre itself. It also serves as a promotional tool – for distribution to architects, universities, Tafes, libraries, medical schools. This is our market for high-end commissions. To cover the costs, it is proposed the artists each pay a nominal fee per entry, which will include their own copy of the book; plus we will do a fundraising dinner to cover the rest of the costs. Watch this space for more details during the year.
