Neil studied under the tutelage of Graeme Inson until Graemeās death in 2000; also under Roderick Shaw, a great colleague of Inson.
Neil has continued to paint and teach in the tonal style, not only in portraiture, but also in landscape and still life. He is an Associate of the Royal Art Society and was a finalist in the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize.
He has exhibited and has received multiple commissions and is represented in many private collections in Australia and Europe.
