ARTIST’S STATEMENT
“My practice has been wide ranging but the main focus has always been portraiture, working in many mediums, including pencil, ink, watercolour, acrylics, oils and clay. I have been painting for over twenty years as a self-taught artist and have recently gone back to study, spending a full time year at West Wollongong TAFE in 2012 and then moving on to commence a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School in 2013, graduating in 2015.
I appreciate the opportunity to glimpse and express something about each unique inner life. I feel the portrait is a creative collaboration between the sitter and the artist. I enjoy working with clients to come up with a composition that is personally and artistically satisfying. It is important to understand how the subject sees themselves, and also to be open to the element of what one may call chance or intuition, and letting the painting develop in its own way.”
In 2016 Jodi will undertake a 12-month residency at Dunmoochin, Melbourne
