Ryan, Sally

Biography

Sally Ryan began her education with a Certificate in Graphic Design which she completed in 1981, followed by a Diploma of Education. After working as a teacher, marrying and starting a family she spent some time creating ceramic works inspired by time spent in Italy. She won several prizes in that medium and was commissioned to paint a number of commemorative plates for various institutions. In 2008 she taught art at Sydney Grammar School. An increasing interest in portrait drawing and painting led her to enrol in part time classes at the Julian Ashton Art School and after winning a scholarship there for 2010 she has been studying and painting as a fulltime artist. Since starting at Julian Ashton, Sally has had three works hung in the Mortimore Prize(2008,2010) and she has been a finalist in the Portia Geach Memorial Award (2010) as well as  the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing (2011).
