Jodi Stewart has been painting for over 20 years. She is mostly self taught, apart from a year of private drawing classes in 1991 and a year of drawing and painting at TAFE in 2009. In 1996/97 Jodi operated her own gallery and framing business on the South Coast of New South Wales which featured her own work and displayed many of the regions talented artists. In 2000 Jodi had her first solo exhibition, “Aspects of the Female” which focussed on the female form and experience and featured over 40 works in pencil, ink, watercolour, oil and photography. She has since been an active member of the local arts scene, participating regularly in both SeeChange and Escape Artsfest, and exhibiting in venues in Burill Lake, Ulladulla, Milton, Nowra and Culburra Beach.
Jodi has completed numerous commissions including creating seventeen figures for a Moss Vale church’s stained glass window. She has been commissioned to paint special buildings, beloved pets, adored spouses and treasured children.
Jodi’s work is characterised by an empathy with the subject, and attention to fine detail. She is especially interested in portraiture, and is talented at reproducing not only a likeness, but a personality.
Jodi particularly enjoys working with a client to come up with a composition that is personally and artistically satisfying.
When working without external restrictions Jodi tends to concentrate on subjects that consistently reflect the themes of creativity and women and the symbols relating to these subjects.
